One of the biggest hurdles I’ve run into when it comes to setting a goal for myself is staying consistent. Whether it’s working out a few days a week or posting for my blog it’s hard to stay on track. Over the next week I am challenging myself to be more consistent.
Here are 8 reasons why you should join the “consistency challenge” along with me:
- Consistency compounds – We all know that if you work out once over the course of a year – it barely has any health benefits. The same is true if we eat poorly or have a cheat meal. Our actions only see significant results if we are consistent. In other words, consistency compounds. The more consistently you take action towards your goals every day over the course of a year, the more you will see results.
- Small decisions matter – This brings me to my next point. The consistency challenge helps us to realize that the decisions we tend to think of as “small” are in reality very significant. When we are consistent it can become empowering and we realize how powerful the small decisions we make can actually be.
- Results are visible and measurable – When we are consistent for a significant amount of time we see results. It can be very satisfying to see that our actions are tied to improvement – not to mention the results we start to see gives us momentum and fuels us with motivation to keep acting. Basically, this creates a snowball effect, where the more we act consistently the faster we “roll” towards knocking out our goals and the more effortless the entire process becomes.
- Grow self confidence – When we stick to our goals, and we start to see results, naturally our self confidence begins to grow.
- Experience increased focus on taking action – Acting consistently, seeing results, and gaining momentum behind strategically working towards your goals only helps you to increase your focus. We start realize that action is the only thing that really drives results and that overthinking tends to get you nowhere.
- Become impeccable with your word – Typically remaining consistent helps us to understand the power behind keeping your promise to yourself about things. It also encourages you to listen to your intuition and to continue to keep promises to yourself in the future.
- Form a good habit – If you are consistent enough with your actions eventually you will form great habits.
- Learn Self-Discipline – Consistency and self-discipline go hand in hand. If you are participating in a challenge it is an opportunity for you to realize what prevents you from being disciplined and inconsistent. Maybe you are easily distracted and allow family, friends, tv or social media to break your focus. Maybe you allow your emotions, feelings, or mood that day to get the best of you – and you’re not consistent because you don’t “feel like it” all the time. Whatever the issues or excuse is, you’ll be able to come face to face with it while on this challenge so that you can become more disciplined.
Now that I convinced you to start this challenge with me. I want you to do the following:
- Write down one of your goals for the week.
- For example my goal is to write blog posts for 7 days straight and to post them and advertise them on social media for 7 days in a row.
- Determine what action you will take in order to ensure that you are working consistently towards this goal.
- For example, the action I will take is to a) write for two hours everyday b) post my writing to my blog c) advertise my post
- Schedule time in your day to take action.
- Writing everyday means that I will wake up at 6am consistently to write and post my work.
- Share this goal with someone or multiple people so that they will hold you accountable.
- For example, I am sharing this post on Instagram. It will be pretty embarrassing to have written this post and not continue following my own challenge. I will look like a hypocrite!
- I am also telling one of my friends (who also blogs) to check in with me and shame me for not posting. I also told her that I owe her $50 if I don’t post everyday for 7 days.
- Celebrate your results.
- Buy yourself ice cream, a good meal, or a new outfit for all of your hard work. Treat yo self!
